Road conditions worsen as new snow falls

[ad_1]

Another storm hit Anchorage on Tuesday following weeks of wintry weather in Southcentral Alaska, leading to sloppy road conditions by the afternoon. The National Weather Service forecasted up to 8 inches of snow to fall by Wednesday in Anchorage, with west winds up to 25 mph potentially limiting visibility through Turnagain Arm. A winter weather advisory was in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Initially, the storm was not expected to bring much fresh snow to Anchorage, but it veered more to the west than anticipated, allowing more moisture to reach the area. The snow was predicted to stop by noon on Wednesday, with similar snow totals expected throughout Southcentral Alaska.

The storm was also expected to bring nearly a foot of snow to the Copper River Basin and Thompson Pass. The Anchorage School District warned of deteriorating road conditions and bus delays in a message to parents on Tuesday afternoon.
