Alaska’s Own Alissa Pili Returns Home for a Homecoming Week
Alaska native and basketball star Alissa Pili had a memorable homecoming when the No. 4 ranked Utah Utes visited Anchorage. Pili, who was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year, was greeted by her family with signs and support, making her return to Alaska an emotional one.
The homecoming continued as Pili visited her alma mater, Dimond High School, where she shared her experiences as a student-athlete and gave back to her high school. Pili, a three-time Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year, reflected on her time at Dimond, where she won multiple state championships in basketball, volleyball, and track and field.
The highlight of Pili’s homecoming came when she stepped on the Alaska hardwood for the first time in four years to compete in the 2023 Great Alaska Shootout. Pili wowed the crowd with an outstanding performance, scoring 46 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and earning 5 blocks in two games. She was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, capping off a memorable return to her home state.
Pili, who is proud of her Alaskan roots, acknowledges the support she received from her family and friends during her homecoming. She also donned a traditional Atikluk handmade by her grandmother, adding a personal touch to her performance on the court.
As Pili and the Utes aim for a deep run in the NCAA March Madness Tournament, the senior player is also looking ahead to potentially being drafted into the WNBA next summer, showcasing her skills on a national level.
